Our commitment
The Decided should be usable by as many people as possible, regardless of ability, assistive technology, or how you choose to browse. If any part of this site gets in your way, email hello@sparkedconnection.com and we will provide the information another way.
About this website
This site is hand-coded in HTML, CSS and JavaScript and hosted on GitHub Pages. It is not built on a website builder, which means we can fix accessibility issues directly rather than waiting on a third party.
It consists of a homepage, an application form, and these legal pages.
Compliance status
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
As a small private business we are outside the scope of the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018, but we have adopted WCAG 2.1 AA as our target because it is the right thing to do.
What is already in place
- Language declared — every page carries
lang="en-GB" - Semantic HTML — headings, lists, and header, main, nav and footer landmarks used correctly
- Skip link — a "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on the legal pages
- Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements are reachable by keyboard and carry visible focus styles
- Accessible mobile menu — the menu toggle uses
aria-expandedandaria-controls, and closes on Escape - Labelled form fields — every field on the application form has a visible, associated label, and required fields are marked in text as well as colour
- Error handling — validation errors are summarised, and the first affected field is scrolled into view
- Reduced motion — the homepage animation is disabled for anyone who has set a reduced-motion preference
- Responsive — pages reflow to 320px without horizontal scrolling
- No flashing content
- Distinguishable links — inline links are underlined, not signalled by colour alone
Known limitations
- Hero contrast — the homepage headline sits over a photograph with a dark overlay. We have tuned the overlay for legibility, but contrast may vary between devices and browser settings
- Skip link on the homepage and form — present on the legal pages, still to be added to the other two
- Cloudflare Turnstile — the security check on the application form is a third-party component and we cannot guarantee its conformance
- Range sliders — the two 1-to-10 scales on the application form are keyboard operable but their current value is announced inconsistently by some screen readers. A text alternative is planned
- Google Fonts — typefaces load from a third party; if they fail, the site falls back to system fonts, which is intended behaviour
- File upload — the photograph upload uses a standard browser control whose presentation varies by platform
Browsers and assistive technology
- Chrome or Edge with NVDA on Windows
- Safari with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
- Chrome on Android with TalkBack
- Firefox on Windows and macOS
The site is not designed for browsers that do not support modern HTML5 and CSS, such as Internet Explorer 11.
Third-party content
- Cloudflare — Turnstile security check
- Google Fonts — Cormorant Garamond, Inter and Josefin Sans
- FormBold, Formspree, FormSubmit and Google — form delivery
- 16personalities, 5lovelanguages and The Attachment Project — optional personality tests linked from the form, which open in a new tab
Enforcement
We recognise our duty under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled people are not placed at a substantial disadvantage. If you are unsatisfied with our response, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
What we are working on
- Adding the skip link to the homepage and application form
- A text-input alternative to the two range sliders
- Further contrast testing of the homepage hero across devices
- Reviewing focus order through the mobile menu
We aim to respond to accessibility enquiries within five working days.
